Once a fishermans cottage, this aptly named retreat has beautiful views overlooking the water to Northam and Braunton Burrows towards the beach at Saunton in the far distance. Cosy and full of character with a snug cottage feel, the accommodation is set over 3 floors (steep cottage style staircases), with two of the bedrooms on the first floor (one with far-reaching water views) and a further bedroom on the second floor (also enjoying the same views). On the ground floor the kitchen/diner opens directly to the white-washed courtyard which affronts the waters edge. There is also a shower room and a comfortable lounge complete with a woodburner, perfect for warming up during those colder months. Waterside Cottage, situated on one of Appledore's pretty cobbled streets, is ideally located within walking distance of the small shops, cafes and popular inns which are scattered through the winding streets and the quayside. Many of the nearby pubs also have live music nights throughout the year which prove a great evening out. Appledore itself lies on the River Torridge and the passenger ferry runs regularly to take visitors to the opposite village of Instow with its sheltered stretch of sandy beach for a day out. Westward Ho! beach is within walking distance of the cottage and is a great place to visit throughout the year, ideal for both surfers and walkers alike. The ancient town of Bideford is also within easy reach and is home to boutique shops and cafes and has a regular ferry to Lundy Island with its protected Marine Conservation Zone. Golf and horse riding are available nearby and Skern Lodge offers a good range of outdoor activities for all ages just 5 minutes up the road by car. Please note: this property is not suitable for wheelchair users and may not be suitable for those with walking difficulties (due to steep cottage style stairs and nearest parking location - please request a copy of the access statement (prior to booking) for more information.
